John Edwards On Health Care

When I saw this, I got goose bumps.

And I simultameously decided that John Edwards
is my choice for the next president.

Sometimes I'm tempted to agree: Edwards may be the least horrendously bad candidate of the major Dems...

Having slapped him with that back-handed compliment, I do have concerns about him. To name two:

One is his involvement with Fortress Investment Group (remember HUMANA from Sicko?

"John Edwards has reported $29.5 million in personal assets to the FEC, of which his aides have told the Wall Street Journal $16.1 million is invested in Fortress Investment Group, a hedge fund that invests in Humana, the health insurance company that comes in for sharp criticism in Michael Moore's blockbuster movie "Sicko."

Edwards does not just invest in Fortress. It also invests in him, to the tune of $1.7 million in pay and investment income, including $479,512 in salary for a year of "part-time consulting" that began in October 2005. And then there are the campaign contributions. According to the Associated Press:

"Fortress was the single biggest employer of Edwards donors during the first three months of the year. Donors who listed 'Fortress' as their employer contributed $67,450 to Edwards' campaign and supporters who identified their employer as 'Fortress Investment Group' gave $55,200 to the campaign, according to Federal Election Commission records." --from democrats.com

My #2 concern about Edwards is with his typical DLC chest-thumping as regards Iran:

"Although Edwards has criticized the war in Iraq, and has urged bringing the troops home, the former senator firmly declared that "all options must remain on the table," in regards to dealing with Iran, whose nuclear ambition "threatens the security of Israel and the entire world."

"Let me be clear: Under no circumstances can Iran be allowed to have nuclear weapons," Edwards said. "For years, the US hasn’t done enough to deal with what I have seen as a threat from Iran. As my country stayed on the sidelines, these problems got worse." --from RAW Story
